The Effect of Bioinformatics Module on Molecular Genetics Concepts on Senior High School Students’ Computational Thinking Skills

This study aimed to investigate senior high school students’ computational thinking skills after implementing the Bioinformatics Module on molecular genetics concepts. The instructional approach used in module is Computational Inquiry-based Teaching (CIbT). a quasi-experiment method with pretest-posttest control group design. subjects this consist of 24 students and 38 experimental from Indonesia. instrument six items test. had four themes; Genetics Disease, Cancer, Forensic Science, Evolution, conducted 8 sessions. Each session lasted 90 minutes. consists programming databases, including unplugged activities coding using Python, searching Uniprot, BLAST NCBI. CIbT has five steps: orientation, conceptualization, investigation, conclusion, discussion. Mann-Whitney test results showed that p-value N-Gain data < 0.01. So, concepts can improve students. For further implementation, biology teachers must prepare use Module, teachers’ understanding bioinformatics practices enrich learning experience Module.
